A walking tour in the north of Ibiza

By 11 March, 2013 No Comments

Today we’ll show you a walking tour. A route in the north part of the island of Ibiza, in Sant Joan de Labritja. We’ll visit part of its coastline and a part of the inner area. Interesting places of traditional Ibiza. About 12.5 km of itinerary, with a gradient of only 65 meters, for which is suitable for any age. The approximate duration is about two or three hours depending on your physical condition. It can’t be done by car.

The itinerary begins in the nice little beach of Es Portitxol de Portinatx, quintessential unspoilt cove, isolated, crystal clear water and some nice and characteristic fishermen’s huts.

Although there’s no services. It starts towards “Faro de Moscarter” (which is the most modern lighthouse in Ibiza. It was built in 1977) which is distinctly seen in the distance. Then we’ll walk along the path that goes along the coast, through pines and dirt roads. We’ll keep going parallel to the coast and we’ll reach the lighthouse.

You’ll enjoy the spectacular views. We’ll continue walking along the coastal track, and when we leave the lighthouse behind us you’ll be able to enjoy the views of “Es Plà de ses Formigues and d’es Illots de ses Formigues”. On our way we’ll find natural torrents, little rock coves, real rural areas, stone walls, paths, pines, almond trees, carob trees, fig trees, and Ibiza wildlife. We continue along the coast path until we get to a point where you can see and enjoy some great views of “sa Talaia de Sant Vicent, ses Formigues and es Port de ses Caletes”.

Sit, relax and enjoy. Now we have to take the “Cala d’en Serra” trail. We’ll cross two stone walls, and we’ll take the path to the right, leaving the cove behind us. Following this dirt road (which will soon turn into a paved road) we’ll reach the Sant Joan, Cala Sant Vicent and Portinatx road.

We’ll follow it until the main Portinatx road and finally we’ll turn right ‘till we get to Es Portitxol beach again. Don’t forget bringing comfortable footwear. If its possible, hiking shoes. Comfortable clothes. Drinking water and something to eat for the stops we do. In the following link you can discover all of the hiking routes in Ibiza. Enjoy!
